The annual Cedaredge Party in the Park was enjoyed by an estimated 200 or more people on Saturday.
Balmy August weather set the scene this year for the community event that has a legitimate claim to title of "the valley's biggest community potluck event of the year."
Everyone contributes to the shared meal with their favorite salad, side, or dessert offering. The event is hosted by the town, and elected officials and staff are always on duty to help make sure their guests have everything they needed for an enjoyable time.
The town once again provided the meal's meat dish. Returning for the eighth year to provide professional catering services were the Kerns Family; Thom, Risa, and Brandon, owners of Vinita Ventures of Cedaredge.
Their menu for the evening offered top-notch barbecue ribs, pulled pork, teriyaki pork roast, herb peppered pork roast, and pineapple salsa pork roast.
The meat offerings were selected "especially for the taste preferences" that visitors to the town's annual party have expressed over the years, explained Risa Kerns.
Vinita Ventures is a mobile caterer that offers its services on a regional scope. Thom Kerns explained the small company catered for the hundreds of hungry music fans who attended Country Jam this year. Especially popular at that event were his burgers and Philly cheese steak sandwiches, he said. They also offer Mexican fare featuring Risa's popular home made green chili.
Anyone needing catering service for an event or wanting to get a quote for service is asked to call Vinita Ventures at 970-324-3609. Information about the company is also available online.
As guests made their ways along the tables set up in Town Park and that were filled with various homemade delicacies, they chose their preferences of the Kerns' meats and the many took seats in the chairs they had set up to view the Centennial Bandstand. There, following the great meal, entertainment was provided by the local music group RARE.
The group RARE has been performing locally for four years, and in its current four-member configuration for about a year and a half. They describe their music as "bluesy, dancy with a little bit of a rock edge." The band also mixes in a bit of country flavor. They play covers and also original compositions.
The members of RARE are Jeremy Lee Ross on guitar; Emily Paige Wray with vocals, guitar, and keyboard; Christian Eggstaff on drums; and Terry Covell on bass.
Cedaredge's Party in the Park has been an annual event since 2007.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
