The Cedaredge Town Board, acting on Jan. 19, gave conditional approval of a cafe, hotel and restaurant liquor license for Creekside Cafe.
Final approval of the license will await results of state background and fingerprint checks for the business owners.
In other action at the regular Jan. 19 business meeting, the Cedaredge Town Board dealt with the following matters:
• Staff from the Cedaredge Public Library gave an update on the StoryWalk feature at Surface Creek Trail. They thanked the town for its support of the project to which the town helped in contributing to various grant monies from sources including one of $10,000 for "signs, posts, and two benches." Additional funds were made available from Region 10 ($5,000), HEAL City ($4,000), and another $1,000 from town in-kind work, according to town documents.
• Ken Christenson with the food bank read a letter of thanks to the Town of Cedaredge and to food bank volunteers for their support. The food bank also receives support from individuals, businesses, community organizations, and churches. The food bank serves about 200 families or 525 individuals each month, according to the letter
• Awards were presented to Drs. Jeff and Susie Hirsch and staff of Surface Creek Veterinary Center, and to Michelle Anderson of the Town of Cedaredge for their work hosting the twice-yearly low cost pet vaccination clinics.
• Trustees heard a tree board report from board chair Jim Leser. The tree board completed over $11,000 worth of service last year while spending $1,500 of its $2,000 budget, Leser said. There is one vacancy on the seven-member tree board.
• An ordinance that allows certain youth offenders of drug and drug paraphernalia laws to be prosecuted in municipal court was adopted.
• The town's $175,000 settlement with Upper Surface Creek Domestic Water User's Association will be paid on Feb. 23 with money from the town general fund, it was announced. The general fund will be reimbursed from the water fund with proceeds of a loan that is currently being negotiated.
At other recent meetings, the trustees took the following actions:
• Last month town staff provided documentation of a $4.86 million total construction project cost, and of a total project budget of $4.83 million, and showing a total project cost overrun of less than one percent. When the plant design was initially considered in 2013, the project engineer estimated just over $3 million for the project total.
• Trustees approved a change order in the town's contract for construction of the new sewer plant bringing the total contract price for construction to just shy of $4.58 million.
• A firm called Getting Great Rates was awarded the job of conducting a study of town water and sewer rates. The bid award is contingent on a staff check of the Missouri-based company's references. The town has been offered a $20,000 grant from DOLA to help pay for the study.
• Trustees adopted an ordinance allowing the golf course restaurant to enter into a three-year lease agreement with new management.
• The property tax levy for the Town of Cedaredge is set at 7.980 mills. It will raise $145,443 in town revenue.
