Cedaredge High School's volleyball team has not had the most successful season in 2017. The team is finding its stride as the season progresses. There are seven seniors on this year's roster who contribute each game.
There are some more experienced teams on this year's schedule which have played well and have a better record at this point. Coal Ridge has six seniors who figure into most of the Titan's success in a season where they are 4-0 in league play and 7-0 overall. The Titans are second in the 3A WSL, behind Delta (2-0 and 8-4), with Aspen (four seniors) boasting a 4-1 and 6-1 slate for the season so far in third place. Delta's roster lists five seniors who have played well to keep the Panthers on pace with a solid chance of finishing high in league standings and moving on in post-season play.
Last week's matches included a loss to Coal Ridge (3-0) and a 3-2 loss to Paonia. The Bruins came back to finish the week with a 3-0 win over 3A Basalt on Saturday.
Against Coal Ridge, the Bruins' losses were not by large margins. They lost the first set by six, the second set by four and the third by just two points.
Paonia, 7-0 in 2A/1A WSL play, had to go five sets to stop the Bruins; 16-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15-11. Paonia's lone loss for the season was to Coal Ridge (3-1).
The Bruins finished the week in Gunnison with wins of 26-8, 25-20 and 28-26.
Next up for Cedaredge is Olathe, in Olathe, on Oct. 5 (varsity action set for 6 p.m.); home against Ridgway Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 7, at home against Rangely at 1 p.m. and next Tuesday (Oct. 10) at home against Gunnison at 6 p.m.
