Celebrate Cedaredge brings people to town
By Hank Lohmeyer
A morning and early afternoon of music, food, lots of crafts and vendors to explore, and ideal weather greeted visitors to the first of three summertime Celebrate Cedaredge street fairs on Main Street Saturday.
Three of the fairs are scheduled on the first Saturday in June, July and August.
In a change from past events, this year's Celebrate Cedaredge fairs are charging for vendor booth space. Previously the space was donated for free by the town.
Booth space is rented at $20 for Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce members or $25 for non-members. Vendors who signed up early and reserved space for all three events received a $10 discount on their total space rent for the series. According to the chamber, the town and the chamber split the proceeds for the events.
The entertainment lineup last Saturday included some top local talent led off by Shelley Rae playing guitar and singing. Also performing during the day were Roy Martin, the group Sweet Escape, and Rare.
Over 25 buisnesses displayed their wares and services on Saturday. The vendor fair give the less visible businesses a chance for public exposure, and they also attract some foot traffic to the downtown area for storefront businesses to profit from.
The event also served as a fundraising opportunity for the Pondy Cancer Warriors, a group which has raised thousands of dollars to help local people and their families in the fight to survive cancer.
