Chamber request: City of Delta is doing its share

Dear Editor:

Delta Area Chamber of Commerce requesting additional funding from the city at the last council meeting is like the adult child living at home asking for a bigger allowance. The chamber occupies 301 Main Street, the building is owned by the City of Delta. Per an agreement some time ago, the chamber does not pay rent, water, electric, trash or sewer, and city workers provide sidewalk snow removal. What is the yearly cost for additional city workers and police presence as a direct result of chamber events?

The City of Delta does its fair share with monetary sponsorship for multiple chamber events throughout the year. I respectfully request that the city council review the financials as requested by Mr. Penick and take stock of the generous partnership already in place.
