Despite missing wrestlers at four weights, the Delta Panthers scored 103 points to place fifth Saturday at the 13-team Panther Invitational.
Delta produced one tournament champion. During his 9 minutes, 13 seconds on the mat, senior Logan Church scored a total of 48 points -- a tie for the second most points scored by a single wrestler -- and won all three of his matches by technical fall to claim the heavyweight title. Church, who was runner-up at state last season, won by technical fall over Oswaldo Morales of Basalt in 4:31.
At 170 pounds, Aiden Barrios scored 19 points and was runner-up after a championship round loss to Paonia. At 152 pounds, Brandon Harper was seeded 10th and placed fourth. Harper, whose four wins were by pin, wrestled back from a quarterfinal loss to win his three consolation matches. In the third-place match Harper lost in overtime, and by a point, to Cedaredge senior Colton Hoerr.
At 195, Gauge Lockhart placed fifth, avenging a first-round consolation loss by pinning Toby Waddell of Cedaredge in the championship round.
Ben Koch (120), Cody Suave (138) and Brendon Starr (145) placed sixth.
