Logan Church won two matches by technical fall and pinned his final opponent to win the heavyweight title at the annual Mel Smith Invitational at Florence. Church's second-round 17-1 win by technical fall was the second fastest technical fall of the tournament.
In the championship match, Church, who was seeded first in the tournament, pinned sixth-ranked Connor Balliet of Berthoud in 1:59.
Drake Horn was 4-3 at the two-day tournament. Horn, who is ranked seventh in the state, lost in the fifth-place match by a 1-0 decision over fourth-ranked Abe Leonard of Elizabeth.
Thirty-two teams competed at the tournament, which included eight of the top 10-ranked Class 3A teams in the state.
Cody Sauve (138) was 3-2 for the tournament and scored eight team points.
Aiden Barrios (170) and Gauge Lockhart (220) also scored team points for the Panthers in Florence.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
