Valentine sweethearts were honored at senior meal sites throughout Delta County.
Above, Norman and Wilma Kroschel were crowned king and queen of hearts in Delta. Norman said they have been volunteering in some capacity all their lives. They have been active members of the American Legion and VFW in Montrose, and performed various duties at the Delta center for many years including delivering Meals on Wheels for a short period of time. They received a bouquet from Ruby’s Floral, candy from RSVP and a gift certificate for dinner at the Sundance.
Surface Creek Seniors, Inc., named Kaye Westlake and Mary Avara as this year’s valentine sweethearts. Westlake and Avara have worked as volunteers at the senior meals program in Cedaredge “forever,” said SCSI board member Helen Barton. The two were given candy, corsages and bowls filled with tea and other delectable morsels, “all from the RSVP,” said Barton.
Robert and Jo Edgar were honored at the Hotchkiss Senior Meal Site on Feb. 11. They have been Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) members for more than 20 years. They have served in the dining room at the center. Robert also helps neighbors near their home in Crawford. Gifts included candy, carnations, a card from RSVP and a potted plant from House of Flowers in Hotchkiss.
Frank and Jean Floto were honored in Paonia Feb. 13. They have been active as RSVP volunteers for seven years. Jean served as president at the center for four years and is currently vice president. She and Frank help at the center as needed and also help with maintenance and the recycling program. They received flowers from the Paonia Flower Shop, a certificate for dinner at the Flying Fork Café, and candy from RSVP.
