Colorado Department of Corrections executive director Rick Raemisch presented two Association of State Correctional Administrators (ASCA), Susan M.Hunter Scholarship Awards. The awards were presented to Brenna Rhiness, daughter of Sergeant Derrick Rhiness from Delta Correctional Facility and Meaghan Ireland, daughter of Kristina Ireland, the canteen manager for Colorado Correctional Industries.
The Susan M. Hunter Correctional Scholarship is named in honor of Susan Hunter, former chief of the Prisons Division at the National Institute of Corrections, as a lasting tribute to her commitment to the field of corrections. Children of current, retired or deceased employees of both state and federal correctional agencies that are members of ASCA may apply for the scholarship. This year ASCA had a record number of students apply -- 1,000. Brenna and Meaghan were two of 28 students who were awarded the scholarship.
Raemisch stated, "It is a great feeling anytime I can present an award to one of our employees or their family members. I was honored that I was able to present the scholarship awards to Brenna and Meaghan. I wish both of them the best as they move forward in their college educations."
