A new, locally published cookbook is full of fun recipes and guaranteed to help people live healthy lives.

That is because all proceeds from sales of the $10 book -- produced entirely with local volunteer efforts -- will go to support a local Relay for Life team and its energetic efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society in its work to advance treatments and effect cures for cancer.

Recipes in the book were donated by members of the Relay team and by customers of Cedaredge's Pondy, explained Barb Hladik, team member and Pondy co-owner.

The idea for the book came about as a way to help raise money for the Pondy's Relay for Life team this year.

"Everyone worked really hard to have some unique and fun recipes in it," said Hladik. "There is even one recipe for elephant stew!" she added with a laugh.

All proceeds from sales of the attractive and professionally produced cookbook will contribute to the fundraising effort for next year's Pondy Relay for Life team, and so go directly to the American Cancer Society. Barb notes that 80 percent of all money raised by the society goes directly into research work.

Team members helped with production by doing typing and formatting on their own computers. Barb's husband, DJ, contributed costs for printing the book.

Purchasers of the cookbook will find it doubly entertaining as it maintains the flavor of the Relay team's Grimm's Fairy Tales theme throughout the pages. It is an illustrated volume that includes numerous reproductions of wood cuts and other art that has illustrated volumes of Grimm's Fairy Tales through history.
