Last weekend's cross country meet for two Delta County schools was in Gunnison at the Mountaineer Cowboy Invitational.
Gunnison (50) won the boys' event with Delta finishing fifth (158) and Hotchkiss ninth (22).
Delta's girls placed sixth with 153 points with Salida winning the team race with 30 points.
Individually, for the boys, Delta sophomore John Ames was the first Delta County runner (17th) to cross the finish line with freshman teammate Garrison Paniagua the second runner (21st) to complete the race for Delta County runners.
Hotchkiss' Sam Rodriguez was Delta County's third finisher (26th) in the field of 132 runners at the meet.
After Rodriguez, in order of finish, came Delta's Caleb Williams (57th), Delta's David Husmann (61st), Hotchkiss' Zach Allen (74th), Hotchkiss' Nick Jung (91) and Hotchkiss' J. D. Miller (123rd).
On the girls' side of racing, Delta's top five runners, and the place finished, included Beki Atchley (18th), Anha Richards (27th), Abby Williams (41), Hana Hollenbeck (45) and Ashtain Turner (78th).
Hotchkiss did not have any runners listed for last week's meet in Gunnison.
All three Delta County schools are scheduled to compete in Friday's, Sept. 30, gathering at Sweitzer Lake for cross country competition beginning at 10 a.m.
The state meet is Oct. 29.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
