The Colorado West Barrel Racing Association hosted a sanctioned event at the Surface Creek Arena in Cedaredge Saturday, July 22. About 80 riders competed.
The jackpot was split among the top five riders in each division, which included:
1D -- Jody Sheffield on Amplified Guy, 16.838, first; Marvella Phelps on Red Bitty, 16.861, second; Josey Snidow on Rusher, 16.939, third; Stephanie Lujan on Ruano Drift Hays, 16.974, fourth; and Jill Phelps on Spark of a Storm, 17.090, fifth.
2D -- Charlotte Kasten on Zoomin for Gabby and Aubrey Brown on Sly, tie for first at 17.363; Deana Linn on My Golden Rolex, 17.373, third; Stephanie Lujan on Misty Blue Moon, 17.456, fourth; and Catherine Martin on Alvin, 17.525, fifth.
3D -- Charlotte Kasten on DD Famous French Pip, 17.971, first; Arthene Robbins on John, 18.112, second; Marvella Phelps on CB Firebird Dash, 18.137, third; Kacey Carpenter on Shashoni, 18.168, fourth; and Whitney Woolley on Rebaleigh, 18.186, fifth.
4D -- Kenda Abbott on Surfin' the Riviera, 19.077, first; Tammy Lang on Geeze Louiz, 19.672, second; Tamara Baker on Jestiny, 19.985, third; Stephanie Hart on Star of Tana, 20.094, fourth; and Josey Snidow on Fancy, 20.135, fifth.
This weekend, the barrel racers will be competing at the Mesa County Fair.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
