James George, 69, of Crawford was cited for careless driving after striking two cows that were part of a cattle drive. The incident occurred the morning of June 14, on Highway 92 near the Desperado. George was northbound in a 2003 Dodge pickup when he struck the cows.
The cows were seriously injured and were later put down. No humans were injured.
The Colorado State Patrol handled the investigation. Troopers again responded to the area at about 11 p.m. June 29, when a Crawford woman struck a stray cow that had wandered onto the highway. Her vehicle suffered minor damage.
