Crawford Pioneer Days is June 9-12

The doors will open on Pioneer Days at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, with the old-fashioned dessert theater melodrama, "Perils of Priscilla." Friday's events include a baking contest, customer appreciation lunch at Crawford First State Bank Colorado, a dinner to benefit the fireworks display from 4-6:30 p.m., and the annual auction from 6-9 p.m.

Saturday's festivities begin at 6 a.m. with the annual fire department pancake breakfast. The parade follows at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the outhouse races. For those who missed opening night, the melodrama returns to town hall stage at 11 a.m.

At high noon the hay bale races begin, followed by a final melodrama performance at 1 p.m. Throughout the afternoon enjoy free games, kids' hay bale races, a relay race, watermelon-eating contest and tug-of-war. Arts and crafts and food booths will be open throughout the day, and kids can enjoy train rides.

The chili cook-off returns this year. Tasting will be held from 3-4 p.m., and judging happens at 4:15. Cash prizes will be awarded for people's choice, judges' choice and best theme.

Wrap up the day with the fireworks extravaganza, beginning at dusk at Crawford State Park. Wind down Sunday at the cowboy church service at 11 a.m., followed by a free lunch in the park.
