Ballots for the Feb. 7 election to recall Crawford Mayor Wanda Gofforth will arrive in mail boxes as early as Jan. 18. Delta County chief deputy clerk Rene Loy Maas said the county expects to mail out ballots the week of Jan 17. Voters have one choice for a replacement, Gill Saunders, and can choose to vote or not vote for Saunders regardless of how they voted on the recall question, said Loy. Should voters pass the recall, Saunders will become the new mayor.
Ballots are due no later than 7 p.m. on election day. A ballot drop-off box will be at Crawford Town Hall beginning Jan. 18. A drop-off box is also available at the Delta County North Fork Annex, 196 W. Hotchkiss Avenue in Hotchkiss, which is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed for lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Ballots can also be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. The annex and Crawford Town Hall will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.
Crawford residents not registered to vote have until the day of the election to register in order to vote in the election. Registrants must have been a resident of the state for no less than 22 days.
