Dallas Buffum died from heart disease Friday, March 4, 2016, in Grand Junction. He had survived a stroke in 2011. He was 76.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Dallas Forrest Buffum was born May 8, 1939, to Este and Marie Buffum. He grew up on his grandparents' family farm near Montpelier, Iowa.
He was a longtime interstate truck driver. He worked for several freight transportation companies including International Transport, Gless Brothers and Schultz Transit, primarily as an owner-operator. He traveled the continental U.S. and Canada.
After retiring from trucking, Mr. Buffum moved to Colorado where he enjoyed fishing, riding in four-wheel drive vehicles over old mining trails and passes and walking the trails in Confluence Park.
Mr. Buffum is survived by his sister, Mardeen Petersen of Long Grove, Iowa; his son, Brian (Nancy) Buffum and their sons Matthew and Daniel of Chesterfield, Mo.; a foreign exchange "son," Glenn Haines of Nagambie, Australia; a longtime companion, Paulette Hawkins of Delta; and Paulette's sons, Devon Hawkins of Lakewood and Dale (Kummi Ka) Hawkins of Erie and their two daughters Kaylin and Danika.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Noela Buffum.
