Longtime Surface Creek area resident Darrell Jess Geyer died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 80.
No services will be held at this time.
Mr. Geyer was born in Fort Morgan June 18, 1935, to Harry and Ila (Mendenhall) Geyer. He spent his childhood in the Fort Morgan and Brush areas.
He married Elizabeth "Betty" Houck on June 18, 1969, in Montrose. They lived in Cedaredge before moving to Eckert where they lived for 25 years.
Mr. Geyer was a former member of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed being a grandfather and great-grandfather, rodeoing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Geyer; a son, Darren (Corrie) Geyer; a daughter, Pam (Craig) Mertes, all of Eckert; three grandsons, Justin (Amber) Gordon, Trey Geyer and Tel Geyer; and two great-grandchildren, Della and Augustus Gordon.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mathew Geyer; and a grandson, Travis Gordon.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
