On Saturday, Dec. 9, people flocked to Paonia Library for a variety of holiday festivities, including a puppet show. Friends of Paonia Library hosted their big, holiday book sale, providing parents the opportunity to browse for books while their children enjoyed the show. "It was a super fun event, with over 50 kids plus their families," says Jane Kelso, Paonia Library manager.
In Hotchkiss, children and their families visited the library for the third annual Gingerbread Festival on Wednesday, Dec. 6. It was an afternoon full of gingerbread stories, crafts and hand-decorated gingerbread cookies.
In Crawford, children enjoyed a play day and storytime with Mrs. Claus on Thursday, Nov. 30. More recently, Crawford patrons created holiday cards while viewing the magnificent Alpine Village on display through December.
Across the county, librarygoers scavenged for pieces of a holiday poem and created hand-made gifts to wrap up for loved ones at Delta Library. Cedaredge Library patrons made snowman ornaments to take home for their trees and took a stroll on the Surface Creek Trail while viewing the 2017 holiday StoryWalk®.
"The holidays are a wonderful time at our public libraries," says Lea Hart, district director of Delta County Libraries. "Holiday programs, recipe books, children's stories, crafts, scavenger hunts, maker spaces, and more contribute to the holiday cheer in our communities. Those who cannot make it to one of our library locations can visit our online library to look for holiday e-books on OverDrive or create a playlist of holiday music using Freegal."
"We would like to invite the community to visit the libraries in the days ahead and we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season."
Delta County Libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. To learn more about what is happening at your library this holiday season or to visit the online library, go to www.deltalibraries.org.
