Helping to fund the Surface Creek Animal Shelter in Cedaredge, Colorado, the Shelter Shoppe, 290 N. Grand Mesa Drive, has been so busy this month that three volunteers have arisen as volunteers of the month.
Alvena Richard, a 10-year resident of Cedaredge, has volunteered at the Shelter Shoppe almost since its beginning citing her love of animals as the reason she continues her tenure at the Shoppe. Alvena loves animals and her Shelter Shoppe family, and she has been using her Christian values and her crafting talents to bring love and cheer to the Shoppe. She is a hard worker and has been instrumental in all phases of the Shoppe's activities, especially the annual Crock Pots for Critters event in February.
Susan Henderson, also a long-time volunteer at the Shoppe not only loves animals and her work for them at the Shoppe but she is an avid gardener, great cook and lady with a wonderful smile and sense of humor. She brings her warm, generous personality to the Shoppe as well as her great ideas for our many projects. Susan and Alvena have decided we will be doing a 'Theme Friday' once a month and they'll keep us in suspense as to what each theme is: Will it be Pajama Day, Cowboy Day, or an Alien Invasion Day? Customers and friends will just have to stay tuned in to the Shelter Shoppe and see.
Joyce Jarrell is new to Cedaredge and to the Shoppe, but she has been involved a long time with animal shelters and animal welfare. She has only been with us for two months but she has been an absolute dynamo and valuable member of the Volunteer family. Joyce used to be a legal assistant, but she now does spiritual work along with her hard work at the Shoppe. She has brought many great ideas as well as her incredible organizing skills to the Shoppe and most recently, she brought her beloved Gracie to be the Easter Bunny for our Good Friday special day. Gracie helped with the Easter egg hunt, where everyone who found a special Easter egg took advantage of the bargain coupon tucked inside. Good Friday had lots of food and fun as well as terrific bargains throughout the store.
These ladies are just three of the very appreciated volunteers at the Shelter Shoppe, all of whom bring their talents, time and big hearts to work for the welfare of our furry friends.
This week's special is "Everything Animals" and all animal print clothing and items, stuffed animals and ceramic animals will be on sale at 50 percent off. Our dynamic trio of volunteers of the month, as well as all the other volunteers, welcome everyone's visit Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
