Delta's Panthers began their 2017 girls soccer season on March 11 against Ridgway's Demons on the Panthers' home field. The Demons were no match for Delta and suffered a 5-0 loss.
Sophomore Missa Webb led Delta's scoring attack with two goals with senior teammates Cassie Waters, Makayla Mills and Jo Webb all scoring one goal each. Senior Callie Wasser had one assist in the match.
Delta traveled to Grand Junction to face Central on March 14 where it fell to the 5A Warriors 3-2.
Missa Webb scored two more goals for the Panthers to bring her season total to four.
The Panthers' third game was at home with Roaring Fork's Rams. A low-scoring contest was a 3-1 victory for Roaring Fork, leaving Delta with a 1-2 record and 0-1 in 3A WSL play. Freshman Haylin McCullough scored the Panthers' lone goal.
In a match played against Montrose this past week, the Panthers failed to score and lost a 3-0 decision to the Indians.
So far Delta owns a 1-3 record (0-1 in 3A WSL play).
The Panthers hosted Grand Valley on Tuesday, March 28 (results to be posted in next week's DCI). On Saturday, April 1, Delta is in Craig for an 11 a.m. contest against Moffat County. An April 4 (Tuesday) match is scheduled against Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale at 4 p.m.
Delta has 18 athletes out for soccer in 2017 with 10 seniors listed on its roster. Two juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen make up the remainder of the team's roster.
