Delta diamond crew back after loss to Montrose

Delta was busy this past week with baseball games against Montrose and Battle Mountain.
The Indians used a big run in the late innings to defeat Delta, 15-7. Against Battle Mountain, the Panthers found enough offense to sweep a doubleheader from the Huskies, 8-2 and 6-4.
Montrose 15, Delta 7
Delta and Montrose were neck and neck after the fourth inning of a game played on March 31 in Montrose.
The Panthers pulled ahead with a single run in the fifth but found themselves trailing, 6-4, at the end of the fifth.
Delta gained the lead, 7-6, with a three-run sixth inning and seemed to have found a bit of confidence in doing so. Montrose, in its half of the sixth, exploded for nine runs to take a 15-7 lead.
The Indians held on for the non-conference decision that included a 14-hit attack.
Blake Reiher had two hits, including a triple, to lead Delta's offense with two RBIs. Ethan Keller had three hits, including a double and a triple. Seth Mewhinney and Damon Jensen had doubles in the game for Delta.
Montrose's Jared Miller had four hits, with a triple and a home run, scored four runs and knocked in four runs. Jarrod Zarkis also had four hits, with a double, and had two RBIs. Kellen Shaw's day included three hits, two runs, a double and three RBIs.
Delta 8, Huskies 2
With the defeat in Montrose still on their minds, Delta's Panthers started their game with Battle Mountain by scoring six runs in the first inning.
While its offense was producing runs, Delta's defense was not allowing any runs to be scored against it.
Battle Mountain pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the fourth inning and then went scoreless the rest of the way. Delta scored its final runs in the fourth inning as well.
Reiher and Ty McCurdy had two RBIs each for the Panthers and Jensen had three hits and scored three times.
Delta 6, Huskies 4
Delta scored first in the second game with two runs in the first inning.
The Panthers scored two times in the fourth and fifth innings accounting for their six runs, and Battle Mountain scored its four runs in the fifth.
Justin Violett scored twice for Delta and hit a home run for two RBIs in the game. Five Delta players had two hits, including Jaspar Carmichael, Reiher, Darrien Rodriguez, Tristan Brown and Violett.
The Panthers are scheduled to play in Glenwood Springs on Wednesday, April 13, at 3 p.m. Palisade comes to Delta on April 15 with a game scheduled for 4 p.m.
