Delta's Panthers have completed the 2016 regular season schedule for volleyball. Last weekend's action was played at Coal Ridge's year-end tournament, which was designed to act as a tune-up for Delta for the coming 3A state volleyball tournament. Delta has been selected to participate in the state tournament on Saturday.

The Panthers played four competitive games earning two wins and suffering a pair of losses.

Delta's two-day tournament began with Glenwood Springs on Friday morning, and resulted in a 2-1 win. Scores for the match included 23-25, 25-14 and 15-11.

Emily Baier had nine kills and two blocks for Delta. Harlee Roberts had 15 digs and Lexi Quinn had 12 with teammates Shelbi Ledesma and Makayla Mills collecting another 10 each.

Emily Nortnik had 20 assists and four aces and Dani Sakala had two blocks.

The Panthers took on Pagosa Springs on Friday afternoon and were not able to match the intensity of the Pirates in a 2-0 loss, 15-25 and 20-25. Against the Pirates, Baier paced the Panthers at the net with 13 kills and was good for 10 digs. Roberts had 16 digs and Quinn another eight. Nortnik dished out 17 assists.

An early Saturday morning match against Battle Mountain resulted in the Panthers' second win of the weekend, 2-1. Delta lost the first set 16-25 but rebounded nicely against the Huskies to score wins of 25-22 and 15-13 to earn the match victory.

Delta's final match of the tournament came against an old foe, Palisade. The Bulldogs had too much going for them and dispatched the Panthers 25-22, 25-21 and 25-7.

Saturday's statistic leaders included Baier with 22 kills, three aces and 23 digs. Roberts had 30 digs for the two matches and Nortnik finished with 41 assists.

The Panthers fell to 18-5 following weekend play and finished 15th in the final pairings for this year's 3A State Volleyball Tournament. Delta will play in Region 10, which includes No. 10 St. Mary's (19-4) and Kent Denver, ranked 27th with a 15-8 record.

On Friday, Nov. 4, Delta plays Kent Denver (at St. Mary's) at 5:30 p.m. and finishes the day against St. Mary's at 7 p.m.

At University High School, Cedaredge (33rd) plays University (fourth) at 4 p.m. and Machebeuf (21st) at 5:30 p.m.
