Delta FFA members attend stock show; Anderson awarded SAE grant
By Press Release
The Delta High School FFA chapter attended the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver last week. It was all fun and games with a little work thrown in for good measure. Mixed in with visits to the rodeo, cattle grooming clinics, exploring railroad museums and leveling mountains of barbecue, one particular member was on a mission. Erica Anderson applied for an SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) breeding grant, which she was awarded. Anderson received $1,500 from a Colorado rancher to purchase a breeding heifer of her choice. However, that's just the beginning of this endeavor. She has to maintain records on her beef operation, artificially inseminate the animal, construct a presentation for the FFA State Convention and show the heifer at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo in September. Nobody ever said ranching is easy, but it sure is fun.
