No one seems absolutely sure, with records not easily obtained, but there's plenty of speculation going around that the 2016 Delta golf team has made history by qualifying its entire team for the state playoffs (played on Sept. 26-27 in Colorado Springs).

A two-way playoff between Basalt and Delta was needed to determine the 3A Regional Golf Tournament's two teams who carded the top two scores. The Longhorns and Panthers finished play with identical scores of 242 and a playoff was needed to resolve the regions second place qualifier. Delta won that playoff at Devil's Thumb Golf Course and made history in doing so.

Through the years there have been numerous players who have qualified, including senior Blake Reiher who is making the trip to state for the third time.

Aspen was the top qualifying team with a team total of 233. Members of the winning team include Jack Pevny (76), Dominic Lanese (78), Jack Hughes (79) and Dawson Holmes (79).

Basalt's Holden Kleager was this year's tournament medalist with his score of 73.

Even though the Longhorns lost the playoff to Delta, the entire team qualified to participate at state. The top 13 individuals, after the first two teams are qualified, also make the trip to state. Joining Holden Kleager for the trip to state was Drew Broadhurst (83), Linc Kleager (86) and Tanner Korn (88).

Delta's qualifying team included K.C. Carlson (76), Logan Wood (81), Blake Reiher (82) and Cristian Hall (88).

The Panthers picked up an extra award with head coach Ken Brown, selected by his peers, honored as the 2016 Coach of the Year.

Cedaredge's Bruins will have three representatives at this year's state meet. Leading the way for the Bruins was Peter Carlson (80), Jacob Lewis (85) and Duncan Campbell (87). Matt Smelser, the team's fourth member, missed the cutoff.

Reiher and Wood tied for 24th at last year's 4A state tournament with scores of 157.

The Bruins have a trio of repeat 3A returnees in Lewis (T-24th, 182), Campbell (67th, 196) and Carlson (173rd, 205).

All of Basalt's team played in last year's 3A tournament. Holden Kleager tied for sixth with a score of 155 for two days worth of play.

This year's state tournament was held at Saddle Rock Golf Course in Aurora.
