With two games left on its regular schedule, Delta's baseball fortunes rest with a tough foe in Gunnison (12-3 and 6-1) and a scrappy Grand Valley team (2-13, 0-7) this week. The Panthers defeated Basalt (13-2) on April 25 and slipped past stubborn Aspen, 16-0, on April 29.

Delta, 13-4 overall and 7-0 in 3A WSL, jumped on Basalt for 12 first-inning runs and tacked on one more in the third to roll over the Longhorns in five innings on Delta's home field.

Justin Violett's first win of the season was a four-inning effort allowing three hits, two runs and four walked batters. Drake Horn came on in the fifth to set the Longhorns down to preserve the win.

Damen Jensen opened the game with a single but was retired on a fielder's choice for Delta's first out.

Tristan Brown hit a two-run bomb to right field, and the rout was on. Counting Blake Reiher's fielder's choice, 13 straight Panther batters reached base in the inning with Ethan Keller, Rowan Carmichael, Reiher, and Brown all hitting doubles in the spree. Violett added a two RBI home run. Jaspar Carmichael, Ty McCurdy and Reiher reached base on singles. Violett and Dylan Hollenbeck were issued walks in the parade to the bases.

Brown's 3-4 day at the plate produced three RBIs while Reiher, Reeder, McCurdy and Violett had two RBIs.

Miles Levy paced Basalt with two hits and an RBI and Ben Haag had one hit and one RBI.

A four-inning stalemate was ended in the fifth with Delta scoring two runs. The Panthers added four more runs in the sixth and polished off the Skiers with a 10-run seventh for a 16-0 win.

Jaspar Carmichael picked up his fifth win against one loss in the five-inning outing. He walked two and struck out 10 in his 62-pitch day. Keller worked the final two innings giving up two hits, one walk and struck out one batter.

Delta's April 2 meeting with Gunnison was in Gunnison, with that game holding league-title implications. A win and the Panthers secure their first 3A WSL title.

Saturday's game, played at home, against Grand Valley's Cardinals is set to begin at 11 a.m.
