Delta's Panthers were big winners during the 2A prep football season, finishing with an 8-4 season following a loss to Kent Denver in the Class 2A state football playoffs.
Delta picked up several more accolades in the post-season with the selection of 12 Panther football players to the 2016 2A Intermountain League All-Conference team.
First Team selections included Tristan Brown (Sr. LB/RB), Damon Jensen (Sr. RB), Beau Byers (Sr. WR), Logan Church (Jr. DL), Kole Roberts (Sr. QB) and Josh Reeder (Jr. DL).
Six more Panthers were Honorable Mention selections, including AB Ontiveros (Sr. WR), Cameron Schaal (Jr. OLB), J.J. Muniz (Jr. DL), Uriel Blanco (Jr. DL), Sam Komives (Sr. LB) and Colton Galvin (Jr. FS).
Damon Jensen, the Class 2A leading rusher, was chosen the 2016 Back of the Year for the 2A Intermountain League.
Ontiveros's talent kicking the football proved to be highly effective throughout the year and led to his being honored as the 2016 Kicker of the Year in the 2A Intermountain League.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
