Delta leads 3A WSL soccer race after wins

The 3A WSL leading Delta Panther soccer team notched two more victories this past week and takes records of 2-0-0 and 8-1-0 overall into this week's action.
Delta defeated Crested Butte (4-2 and 4-4 overall in 3A Intermountain League) by a score of 4-0 Sept. 19. On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Panthers pounced on Grand Valley for an 8-0 victory.

Seniors Brandon Harper and Ian Downey scored first half goals for the Panthers. Harper's winner came on a penalty kick and Downey sailed a long ball over the head of the Titan's keeper.
Second half scoring came off the foots of seniors Bradley Davis (during a corner kick) and Marcos Edmondson on an uncontested kick from outside the penalty box.
Harper had an assist for the league-leading Panthers.
Crested Butte competes in the 3A Intermountain Soccer League where it is in second place, behind Ridgway (7-1 and 8-1). The Titans are 4-2 and 4-4.
Felipe Bedoy earned the win for Delta.

The Panthers enjoyed another great outing in Parachute with Delta earning its eighth win of the season against one loss. Five of the Panthers' wins were shutouts.
Seven players, led by Harper's two goals, helped the Panthers achieve a second 8-0 win of the season in a contest played at Grand Valley High School. Delta's first 8-0 win came against Palisade earlier in the season (Sept. 5).
Sophomores Martin Corral and Nathan Downey were joined by junior Sergio Campos and seniors Alberto Connsignio, Danny Mendoza and Edmondson with one goal each.
Edmondson finished with four assists and Davis had two.
The Panthers face Coal Ridge (0-0-0 and 5-1-1 overall) on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. in New Castle.
Next week begins on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Basalt (0-1-0 and 2-5-0) with a 4 p.m. starting time. The Panthers finish the week in Aspen (0-0-1 and 2-4-1) on Oct. 7 with an 11 a.m. starting time.
