Weather had something to do with last Friday's Delta versus Vail Mountain soccer match. The match, played at Delta High School's football field, had strong winds blowing from the south. Vail Mountain's second goal of the match came from the south and curved right to left to find the left-rear corner of the net for the tying score in first half play.
Delta eventually emerged the victor in a hard-fought match with a goal in the second half.
Sophomore Martin Corral scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season with supporting goals coming from seniors Bradley Davis (sixth) and Brandon Harper (eighth).
Assists in the game for Delta came from junior Sergio Campos (first) and senior Marcos Edmondson (seventh).
Wyatt Hall and Shane Cole scored goals for the Gore Rangers.
The Panthers took 14 shots in the match with sophomore Felipe Bedoy collecting five saves on his way to picking up an 11th win of the season.
The Panthers finish regular season play this week with a game against ninth-place Moffat County (1-6-0) which was played on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and second-place Roaring Fork (5-1-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. at Delta High School. The match-up with Roaring Fork has major league title ramifications. A win secures a 3A WSL title while a loss would place the league title in the hands of Roaring Fork.
Delta is ranked fifth in 3A state standings and Roaring Fork is seventh.
