Delta's Panthers split a pair of softball games this past week defeating Gunnison on Sept. 13, 13-9, and losing to Cedaredge, 13-3, on Sept. 15.
In Gunnison, the Panthers started with a three-run first inning for a 3-1 lead through three innings of play.
Gunnison's offense started heating up in the fourth inning with two runs and a 3-3 tie heading into the fifth frame.
The Cowboys came up with another two runs in the fifth and led 5-3 going into the sixth inning. Delta batters paraded to the plate for a four-run rally and took a 7-5 lead to the bottom of the inning. Gunnison plated one run cutting the Panthers' lead to 7-6 with one inning left to play.
Delta, with extra incentive, pulled the big bats out in the seventh inning and erupted for six runs and a 13-6 advantage with the Cowboys coming to bat.
Gunnison closed the seven-run deficit to four with a three-run rally of its own making the final score 13-9.
Delta had 14 hits in the game but committed five errors in the seven inning contest.
Senior Lily Lockhart was the leading run-producer for the Panthers with six RBIs coming on two hits in four at bats, including two home runs, and now leads Class 3A home-run hitters with seven. Lockhart also scored three runs in the win.
Sophomore Jenna Sutliff paced Delta's offense with four RBIs generated on a 2-4 day at the plate, including a home run. Sutliff is second in Class 3A home-run hitters with five.
The Cedaredge/Delta softball game results are found in a separate story in today's paper.
