Last week's baseball play wasn't as good of a start as Delta High School coach Steve Reiher wanted. His Panthers started the week with a potent Hotchkiss Bulldogs' baseball squad, which is on a five-game win streak, including its 2-1 victory over Delta on March 27 in Delta.

The Panthers rebounded from their loss to Hotchkiss and has reeled off doubleheader wins against Roosevelt (11-5 and 11-0) on March 29 and finished the week with a 19-2 3A WSL over Coal Ridge on April 1.

Chase Hiatt's one-for-two day at the plate resulted in two RBIs for the Bulldogs in a game that wasn't decided until the seventh inning.

Hotchkiss scored the game's first run in the top of the first and made it hold up until the seventh inning.

The Panthers scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh but fell short as the Bulldogs added the winning run in the top half of the frame.

The Bulldogs outhit Delta 8-6 with Jonathan Gonzalez and Marvin Guereque picking up two hits apiece for the winners. Presley Pene, Gonzalez and Jamison Yanish joined Hiatt with a double in the game.

Delta's six hits came off the bats of Blake Reiher, Josh Reeder, Darrin Rodriguez, Ethan Keller, Jaspar Carmichael and Justin Violett.

Christian Hall (0-1) went four innings for the Panthers, giving up five hits, one run and striking out eight Hotchkiss batters.
