Delta off to 1-2 start in tennis

Delta High School girls tennis team has played twice (with results reported) so far this season with losses to Glenwood Springs (2-5) and Central (3-4).

On March 4 Delta was in Glenwood Springs to face the Demons. The Panthers' two wins came at 1 Doubles with set scores of 1-6, 7-5 and 0-0 (10-8).

The Panthers were winners in the 4 Doubles' match with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

On March 8 the Panthers hosted Central High School and suffered a 3-4 loss to the Warriors.

The first win for Delta was in 1 Singles play where the final scores were 7-6 (7-4), 2-6 and 0-0 (10-6). Delta's 2 Doubles team won in straight sets 6-3 and 6-0.

In 4 Doubles play Delta won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second 2-6. A tie-breaker set was played with Delta earning a 0-0 (11-9) decision for the win.

Delta played in Montrose on March 21 and were scheduled to play Cedaredge at Bill Heddles Rec Center beginning at 3 p.m. on March 27.

There are 31 athletes listed on this year's tennis roster with Mike Chastain returning to guide the Panthers.

The Panthers have three matches left before regionals on May 4; April 13 at Paonia, April 19 at home against Glenwood Springs and Cedaredge on April 25.
