Preston Pipes, 25, escaped serious injury when his vehicle rolled three times. He reportedly swerved to miss a deer while traveling westbound on Highway 133 at about 1 a.m. The Colorado State Patrol is determining if alcohol was a contributing factor.
Several other accidents involving deer were reported throughout the week, none resulting in serious injury to the driver. This not only warns the animal to avoid the road, it helps point out the danger to other motorists.

An Eckert resident reported a sheepherder had shot her dog, which was taken to the veterinarian for emergency treatment. The sheepherder said the dog was harassing the sheep and he fired a shotgun into the air to warn it off. He denied firing a shot at the dog. Deputies later determined the dog owner's description of the shooter did not match that of the sheepherder. The case remains under investigation.
