Delta High School softball coach Steve Reiher was perplexed by his team's slow starts in a pair of scrimmage games in Grand Junction over the weekend. Otherwise, Reiher said he thought the Panthers just need to play to improve.
Reiher was asked to evaluate his team's performance over the weekend for the three games they played.
"We didn't keep any official score, but we did some things well. We need to work on base running a little bit to start with. We pitched okay and swung it well at times. The scrimmages were good because they showed us the things we do need to work on," noted Reiher.
Reiher was quick to say, "The girls competed hard. We started out slow against Douglas County for whatever reason and didn't seem to have a lot of energy, and it showed. Against Brighton I thought we looked much better in terms of intensity. Gunnison was kind of a slow start as well. We had a three-hour break between the Brighton and Gunnison games and it took us a little bit to get rolling again."
"Megan Sandoval swung it pretty consistent as did Sarah Parker. All three pitchers threw decent. Jenna Sutliff looked good defensively as did Syanne Steele."
