Delta soccer team wins

Delta High School's soccer team picked up its first win of the season last week against Palisade. The Panthers got three goals from sophomore Danny Mendoza and another two from sophomore Brandon Harper. Junior Luka Htoo and sophomore Ian Downey scored goals as well.

Assists were made by Harper, Downey and Marcos Gonzalez.

Delta had four goals in the opening half and three in the second.

BM 5, Delta 1

Battle Mountain, 4-1 and 5-2, is second in the 4A WSL with plenty of experienced players. The Huskies scored twice in the first half and finished the match with another three in the second half.

Delta's lone goal came off the foot of junior Isaac Fuller while Donnie Leavitt paced Battle Mountain's offense with two goals and an assist.

Delta hosted Grand Junction Central on Sept. 22 and will play in Glenwood Springs on Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.

Summit's Tigers are in town for an 11 a.m. 4A Western Slope League matchup on Saturday, Sept. 26.
