Delta swim team second at meet

The Delta County swim team hosted a four-team meet last Friday. The winning team was Durango with 458 points and Delta finished second with a total of 353 points. Montezuma-Cortez earned 335 points to place third and the combined team of Palisade and Central scored 115 points to place fourth.

Kendra Hillman, swimming in the second heat, was the lone first-place winner for Delta with her time of 2:43.25 in the 200 IM. Teammate Sami Wollert, who sang the national anthem prior to competition, was fourth in a time of 3:10.71. A third Delta swimmer, Megan Huggett, was seventh in the event.

Delta had four second-place finishes in the meet. Kaylee Dunham was an individual runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:24.66. Landre Whelen picked up fourth-place points in the event.

There were three relay teams that picked up second-place finishes. Abigail Vigil, Hillman, Whelan and Olivia McCrackin combined forces to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:15.18. Delta was also third in the event with Huggett, Dunham, Naomi Hayner and Cassie Waters finishing the race in 2:25.68.

Another second place went to Delta's 200 free relay team with a time of 2:00.23. Members of this team included Hillman, Hayner, McCrackin and Vigil. Delta had a second relay team (Whelan, Waters, Huggett and Dunham) in this event that finished fourth.

The third relay team, 400 freestyle, was composed of Vigil, Whelan, McCrackin and Hillman with a time of 4:25.52. A second Delta team, including Kaitlyn Neely, Waters, Huggett and Hayner, placed third. Finishing sixth in the race was the team of Sam Lane, Somer Cannon, Haley Park and Dunham. Delta also had an eighth-place team in the event made up of Lauryn Metcalf, Rosie Komives, Wollert and Hunter Blade.

Delta's McCrackin was fifth in the 200 free as was Lene Sharer Meneley in the 100 free.
