Delta UMC welcomes new pastor | Church

Pastor Tom Hazelwood

Delta United Methodist Church announces the arrival of Pastor Franklin Thomas "Tom" Hazelwood who, along with his wife Stephanie and son Robert, is moving to Delta County this week.

After being ordained, and elected as an elder in 1990, Pastor Tom served various churches and communities in Arkansas, before serving for the emergency response team of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), first as executive secretary, then as the elected assistant general secretary from 1998 through 2013. His work included responding (on scene) to disasters in the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the 9/11 tragedy in New York. While serving UMCOR, Pastor Tom used his pastoral care, and crisis management, skills to help people and communities chart a path toward a "new normal."

Since 2013, Pastor Tom has served as director of Connectional Ministries in Memphis, Tenn., pastor for Middlebrook Pike UMC in Knoxville, Tenn., and executive director for Glory Community in Broomfield.

Pastor Tom is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Delta community and advocates in his theological mission statement that, "All that we are and all that we can hope to be are based on relationships" and "As we establish authentic relationships with others, we experience the kind of relationship God wants with each of us."

Pastor Tom's first Sunday is June 4. Community members are invited to join the congregation in welcoming him.
