The president of the United States has declared war on the health of the citizens of the nation and our very lives are at risk.
This past week the president of the United States in effect told a good portion of the residents of the North Fork Valley, county and nation that he did not care if they died prematurely, and/or had to declare bankruptcy, plunging their families into poverty. This is not hyperbole. Our local friends and neighbors, the ones who are not on Medicaid or Medicare and are not affluent enough to afford health insurance without government help are now at risk. In refusing to release the subsidy money to help most residents of the valley and county to have health insurance he also has attacked our new local medical care clinics and the Delta County Memorial Hospital and district, which will be challenged to serve a huge increase in the uninsured.
The individual who should be our leading public servant has also made this despicable decision just before re-enrollment into the Colorado Affordable Care Act exchange begins on Nov. 1, meaning that many will not be able to find affordable insurance and if they are currently ill will face severe financial and health hardships after the first of the year when their current insurance coverage goes away.
What this comes down to is the head of the administrative branch, and the Congress that abets his actions, will soon be guilty of the deaths of many and bankruptcy/poverty of many more. Those who remain silent will share in that guilt. Shame on our national government that puts politics above public service and peoples' lives.
Every responsible, moral citizen of Delta County and the nation now has the responsibility to step forward and demand that this action be reversed, first by congressional action authorizing the subsidy payments for 2018 and that the ACA be repaired or changed to something better, not fitting some particular political philosophy, but something that truly serves all of the people better.
Second, every moral and thoughtful member of Congress must stand up and support legal action that will result in the removal of this immoral, irresponsible and unqualified individual from the office of president of the United States of America, as should every American.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
