Delta resident Dennis H. Howell died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 76.
Rosary was said Nov. 2 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, followed by Mass of Christian burial. Interment has taken place at Mesa View Cemetery.
Mr. Howell was born in Bellingham, Wash., Oct. 5, 1940, to George and Marianne (Jefferson) Howell. He also went by the Native American name of "Lightfoot."
He spent his childhood and attended school in Bellingham. He attended Ferndale High School.
On Nov. 19, 1966, he married Maryjane Sanchez in Delta.
A lifelong Christian, he was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, where he was a eucharistic minister. He enjoyed singing, bodybuilding, woodworking, making the kids beds when they were younger, taking walks, feeding birds, jigsaw puzzles, reading, classic cars, storytelling, volunteering at the powwow and taking care of his wife Maryjane. He was an artist and an outdoorsman growing up.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maryjane Howell; a son, Dennis Howell; two daughters, Judy Scott and Mariann (Troy) Nesheim; a sister, Beverly Culver; and three grandchildren, Kaleb Howell, Jaylie Howell and Carter Nesheim.
He was preceded in death by a sister; brothers; and son-in-law, Brad Scott.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
