Devil's Thumb hosts 16th Ladies Classic tournament

There were 72 golfers vying for top scores and prizes at last weekend's 16th Annual Devil's Thumb Ladies Classic. The 36-hole tournament was played on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament was flighted by low handicap and partners had to be within eight strokes of each other.

Kim Eaton and Pat Kuntz ran away with the First Flight title with a score of 132 for the top Gross score. Second Gross went to Tami French and Pam Buerger who finished with a score of 153.

A 126, belonging to the team of Katy Brink and Peggy Brink, was the top Net winner in First Flight play.

Seven of the nine teams playing in the Second Flight came away with scores that warranted payouts. Valarie Laroche and Dorothy Walker had the best Gross score with their 163. Second Gross, with a 165, went to Joni Hornbeck and Ann Scarry. A score of 169 was good for third in Gross play and belonged to the team of Terri Allender and Christy Martin.

First Net, in Second Flight play, belonged to Tammy Fesmire and Sherri Sparrow who finished with a 125. Second Net featured a tie (128) between the teams of Betsey Frazier/Diann Robertson and Sheila Naski/Connie Badini. Third Net, with a score of 129, went to Aiaga Roffey and Marcia Arnhold.

The tournament's largest flight was the Third Flight which had 24 golfers. Vicki Ripp and Cindy Lonis shot a 172 to win the top Gross place with Kathy Anderson and Connie Jack placing second with their 173. Third Gross went to Jackie Jaquez and Rhonda Wenger with a 178.

The top Net winner in Third Flight action was the team of Candy Hammerich and Marge Fleming with a score of 126. A 127, from Mary Bartz and Dorsey Ewing, was the second place Net winner. There was a tie for third Net between the teams of Patti Michael/Karen Lock and Dolli Garrison and Maridale Murray with each team posting a score of 129.

Barbara Thurman and Nancy Cole won the Fourth Flight Gross title with a score of 185 while Michelle Marquardy and Barb Vick fired a 190 to place second. Third Gross was a tie with Sandra Varnell and Tracee Lanier sharing the award with Melinda Keeney and Madge Daberkow with scores of 197.

In Net honors, Jinx Richards and Jo Rosenquist shared the top prize with Patti Vanlandingham and Chris Serton with each team posting a score of 128. Third Net belonged to Becky Brown and Archie Wethington and their 134.
