The 2015 golfing campaign for Cedaredge and Delta began last week with tournament action at Cedaredge Golf Club. Fifteen teams were represented in varsity play with two junior varsity teams joining the fun on the links.
Aspen placed first after posting a score of 242, with Colter Zwieg shooting a 76 to tie for second in medalist honors with Montrose's Glen-Michael Mihavotz. The tournament's top individual score came from Cortez's Cris Rudosky who fired a round of 71.
Eagle Valley scored a 250 to finish second in team scores, while Delta's Panthers came in with a 252 to earn third place in the team race.
Delta's top scorers were Blake Reiher and Logan Wood with identical 82s. Teammate Christian Hall's 88 was added to Reiher and Wood's scores for Delta's 252. Mason Garcia shot an 84 and KC Carlson had a 96 to round out a successful first tournament for the Panthers.
Jacob Lewis' 82 topped Cedaredge scorers with the Bruins putting together a team score of 265. Pete Carlson shot a 91 and Duncan Campbell had a 92 to combine with Lewis' 82 for the 265 total. Nate Stumpf had a 110 and Matt Smelser a 111 to complete Cedaredge scores for the tournament.
In junior varsity action, Delta posted a team score of 311 to finish second behind Montrose's junior linksters who finished the day with a 289.
Delta's top shooter was Clayton Abila with his 91. Kyle Mock posted a 109 and Jaspar Carmichael carded a 111 for the Panthers' top three scores. Rowyn Carmichael (112) and Isaac Gibson (121) completed the scoring efforts by Delta players.
Tyler Quinn had a 91 to lead Montrose's junior varsity. The remainder of the scores were Wyatt Hughes (95), Mike Brent (103), Triston Harrison (108) and Ben Gibson (117).
Cedaredge was slated to play at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction on Monday, Aug. 17, at Redlands Mesa on Aug. 18 and then at Devil's Thumb on Aug. 26 beginning at 9 a.m.
The Panthers schedule shows a tournament at Redlands Mesa Aug. 18 and then the Devil's Thumb Invitational on Aug. 26.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
