At Delta's home speech and debate tournament, Delta High School showed the Western Slope who was boss! Anthony Streich received first place in extemporaneous speaking. Cidney Fisk placed second, Hannah Owens placed fifth, and Allison Castrejon placed sixth in original oratory. In humor interpretation, Lydia Stalcup got first place. In poetry, Ashley Gisoldi came in second and Anha Richards received sixth place. Devon Murdock and Lucy Streich placed third in duo interpretation, and in Lincoln Douglas debate Cidney Fisk placed second overall. In the congressional house, nominated for superior speaker was Sameha Haque along with Claire Corbasson who also served as presiding officer.
A special thank you is owed to all of the community members who devoted their time to judge at this tournament. Delta High School is hosting the state qualifications tournament Friday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, Feb. 27. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
