Eleven schools participated in a regional speech and debate tournament hosted by Delta High School coach Danielle Lopez and Central High School coach Britny Walker at Central High School. Participating schools included Ouray High School, Summit High School and several in between.
Delta High School qualified five students to the state competition which will be held in Fort Collins in mid-March. Chris Hufman qualified in first place in international extemporaneous speaking, Mairany Jaracuaro placed second in informative, Caleb Frazier and Lucy Streich tied as regional champions in informative speaking, and Corban Burns won the fourth qualifier in humor. Paonia High School, coached by Bret Hamilton of Delta Middle School, also boasts a regional champion, Jordan Denison in the humorous interpretation event. Good luck to all of these regional stand-outs.
