Delta's soccer team is looking to make some noise in its new conference (3A WSL) and has played well so far this season. The Panthers have defeated Cortez, Grand Junction Central and Palisade early in the season.
The two losses against the Panthers have come at the hands of Montrose (2-1) on Aug. 30 and Roaring Fork, 2-1, on Sept. 10.
The 5-0 win over Palisade was highlighted by junior Marcos Edmondson's two goals. Freshman Martin Corral, senior Luis Meraz and senior Luka Htoo had a goal apiece for Delta in the shutout victory.
Anders Schopp recorded an assist during the five-goal day.
Joseph Holiman was a wall in net with eight saves during the match.
An injury to a Roaring Fork player marred first half play on Saturday with an ambulance summoned to transport the injured player.
Before the injury Delta was in charge of the contest with numerous shots on goal early in the first half. Unfortunately, those shots missed their mark and the score at halftime was 0-0.
The Rams, trailing in shots 21-3, managed to break a 1-1 tie in the second half with a penalty shot that found the net for the winning goal.
Roaring Fork's goals were scored by Axel Palomera and Joe Salinas. Assists for the goals went to Liam Laird and Aidan Sloan.
Corral had six shots and Colton Godwin another five attempts to lead Delta's offensive efforts.
Delta's lone score came off the foot of freshman Martin Corral with an assist from Brandon Harper.
Joseph Holiman allowed two goals and stopped another seven attempts.
Delta faced Colorado Rocky Mountain on Sept. 13 in Carbondale.
