DHS speech team hosts tournament this Saturday

Photo submitted The DHS speech team recently competed at Central High School and at Palisade High School.

At the Central High speech and debate tournament on Dec. 12, Delta performed exceptionally well. In Lincoln Douglas debate Cidney Fisk came in first with Hannah Owens coming in fifth. Chris Hufman received sixth place in extemporaneous speaking, Cidney Fisk came in second in original oratory along with Hannah Owens getting fourth place in the same event. Lydia Stalcup won first place in humor and Sheali King took fifth. Anha Richards got second place in poetry and Ashley Gisoldi came in third. Sameha Haque was awarded second place in the congressional house. Rodolfo Contreras and Ashley Gisoldi came in second in duo interpretation, with Lucy Streich and Devon Murdock placing fourth.

The DHS speech team traveled to Palisade High School to compete on Jan. 9. Cidney Fisk came in fifth in original oratory along with fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Chris Hufman, Lucy Streich and Sameha Haque were all nominated for superior speaker in their individual congressional houses.

The Delta High School team will be hosting a speech and debate tournament on Saturday, Jan. 16. Later this month the team will travel to Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale to compete.
