Two No. 1 seeded wrestlers for Hotchkiss won their division at the Screaming Eagle.
Junior Landen Mayberry (13-3) won his third tournament of the season at 106 pounds on wins over Cedaredge, Montrose and Dove Creek. Mayberry opened with a 15-0 technical fall -- at 2 minutes, 25 seconds, the fastest technical fall of the tournament -- over Sam Campbell of Cedaredge. In semifinals he pinned Logan Righter (14-4) of Montrose in 22 seconds. In the championship match Mayberry won by major decision over Dove Creek.
Senior Devin Curtis pinned his way to the championship match, where he won by an 8-7 decision over Joseph Cantanese (20-10) of Montrose. Twelve of Curtis's 14 wins this season have been by pin, and one by technical fall.
Freshman Tracer Hall (132, 16-7) placed third. In consolation semi-finals, Hall upset Tad Sickes of Nucla by a 1-0 decision.
Presley Pene (126, 13-8) was 3-2 for the day to place fourth. JD Miller (120, 12-7) and Nolan Egging (HWT, 1-3) placed fifth. Jace Peebles (152, 10-10) placed sixth.
