Lawrence B. "Dollar" MacKendrick of Hotchkiss died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. He was 97.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 20, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Mr. MacKendrick was born in Loxley, Ala., Sept. 29, 1918, to Richard and Isabelle (Kuester) Mac-Kendrick. When he was a year old, the family moved to Hotchkiss. He graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1937.
He served four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
On March 29, 1941, he married Lavonne Tunks in Moab, Utah.
Mr. MacKendrick worked for Hotchkiss Ranches for 53 years.
He was a member of Black Canyon VFW Post #9333 and was the president of the Memorial Hall board. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, sports and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Larry Mac-Kendrick of Cedaredge; Vicki (Wayne) Pfeiffer of Montrose and Connie (Norman) Vincent of Paonia; a brother, Don MacKendrick of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren, John and Lawrence MacKendrick, Janet Pruett, Karl Pfeif-fer, Koni Atencio, Vicki Piquette and Andy Vincent; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lavonne in December 2001; four brothers, Jim, Harry, Richard and Fred Mac-Kendrick; and six sisters, Agnes Catlin, Beth McElroy, Emily Lynch, Lucille Lane, Mercedes Oglesby and Genevieve Price.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
