Don Case

Don Case died Jan. 30, 2018, at Colorow Care Center. He was 88.

A memorial service was held Feb. 3 at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with James Gall officiating. Inurnment took place at the Olathe Cemetery.

Don Lee Case was born in Montrose Aug. 19, 1929, to Roy and Phyllis (Driggs) Case. He spent his childhood ranching in the Ridgway and Montrose areas.

On July 2, 1950, he married Jo Ann Beieler of Olathe.

They operated a farm outside of Olathe. Mr. Case was a pioneer in the sweet corn production that has become an economic driver for the Uncompahgre Valley. He collaborated with plant breeding experts to develop the seed stock that led to the types of sweet corn best adapted to local growing conditions. He and his wife served as grand marshals of the third annual Olathe Sweet™ Sweet Corn Festival.

He is survived by his children, Lee Ann (Dennis) Fadler of Smithville, Mo., Martin Case of Bloomington, Ill., Donna McNeil of Dartmouth, Justin Case of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and John (Kathy) Case of Olathe; a sister, Helen Ferguson of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann; his daughter-in-law, Sally Case; and his son-in-law, Daniel McNeil.
