Fort Uncompahgre on the Old Spanish Trail is open and recently held an historic reenactment of the daily life of a fur trapper in the 1840s. The event was a resounding success with a great turnout by the public. Special thanks are due to the many volunteers and mountain men and women who brought Colorado history alive.
If you missed the event, The Fort will hold two more events this fall on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 19. Reenactors will demonstrate flint knapping, spinning, weaving, cooking in a frontier kitchen (cocina) and making music in the frontier. Events will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with a special reduced admission of $2. Seniors, children under 6 years of age, and persons in fur trapping-era clothing are free.
Fort Uncompahgre is located at 440 North Palmer Street in Delta, near Bill Heddles Recreation Center. The Fort is open seven days a week through September from 9 to 4 Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 on Sunday. Plan to visit this living history museum and travel back to the fur trapping-era of Colorado's history.
