Donald Kessell Osborne of Paonia died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. He was 92.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 7, at First Christian Church, 2nd and Oak Street in Paonia, with military honors by Wilson Head American Legion Post #97. Inurnment in Dalton, Ill., will take place at a later date.
Mr. Osborne was born in Mattoon, Ill., Oct. 9, 1923, to
Rastus and Irene (Kessell) Osborne. He lived in Illinois, Georgia and Colorado.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Hawaii and Okinawa during World War II.
He worked as a railroad electrician for the Illinois Central Railway.
He married Linda Todd Shaw on July 6, 1997.
Mr. Osborne enjoyed traveling and baseball, especially the Boston White Sox. He attended First Christian Church in Paonia where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda Osborne; a son, Don (Char) Osborne; two daughters, Debra Dallesandro and Dawn (Bob) Sprout; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 12 stepchildren; 26 stepgrandchildren; and 48 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; a son-in-law, Rich Dallesandro; a granddaughter, Kimberly Keys; his first wife, Margaret; and his second wife, Elaine.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
