Douglas Clayton Mathews died Sept. 12, 2016.
He was born Jan. 21, 1970, to William Mathews and Katherine Gregory.
He attended school in Hotchkiss where he played football and learned to weld. He enjoyed making bookshelves, cutting boards and other things in shop for his family.
In 1987, he met Jody Lynn Ramsey. They had two sons.
He went to work in the coal mines and was later employed by Tony Mautz.
He spent his last years with his partner, Rita Harroun Eisele, doing the things they both enjoyed -- gardening, cooking, hiking and searching for treasures. Mr. Mathews enjoyed his family, good music and the outdoors.
He is survived by his two sons, Koby Ramsey and Kory Ramsey; his mother, Kate Gregory; his father, Bill (Kathy) Mathews; two grandsons, Zaid and Amir Ramsey; two sisters, Tanya Ledford and Kristina Lazano; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; two brothers-in-law, Corey Gardner and Rudy Medrano; and a nephew.
Services will be held at Bible Baptist Church in Hotchkiss at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. A graveside service will follow.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
